We need your help to provide desperate children like these with food, water, clothing and shelter.
The Jerusalem Prayer Team has committed to a trusted and proven Christian ministry in Haiti to help with a relief mission to provide food, blankets, water, medicine and other vitally needed aid to the survivors of the massive earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands of people. Relief officials are estimating that thousands more will die unless aid is delivered quickly. God has directed me to make this appeal for your help and to act as your eyes and ears on the ground in Haiti.
Haiti has a long history with the Jewish people. During the 1930s, when most nations, including America, refused to allow Jews fleeing from the Nazis and the growing persecution to enter their country, Haiti issued visas to hundreds of Jews, saving them from the Holocaust. Hundreds of Jews lived in Haiti until the 1950s, though today it is believed that fewer than 50 remain.
Today we have the opportunity to repay Haiti for the kindness they showed to the Chosen People so many years ago at a time when they are in desperate need of our help. We are sending aid, and I need your help so that we can make a real difference for these hurting people. The Christian ministry with which we are working has been serving in Haiti for 30 years. I know them—they are faithful and reliable stewards. This contact gives me the confidence that the help we provide will go directly to the people who most need it.
God has directed me to bring this need to the Jerusalem Prayer Team. Though disaster relief is not our primary purpose, this need is simply too great to ignore. We cannot claim to love God unless we love our neighbors when they are in need. This is an opportunity for us to show God's love to some very needy people. And having done this before, including in Mexico City after their massive earthquake, I can assure you they will never forget.
Your gift today will allow us to provide help that is literally the difference between life and death for thousands of people in Haiti. If they do not receive this help within days, relief experts tell us thousands more will die. This earthquake is already a tragedy—we cannot allow it to be made worse by failing to act when we can help.
